Jungle is a "buy now, pay later" financial technology startup headquartered in Singapore with operations in the Philippines.
When Alfred received a harassing call from a gadget loan company in the Philippines on Christmas Day of 2018, he decided to build a fully digital and consumer-centric purchase lending company that will remove the need for manual and tedious purchase lending processes as well as the harassing tactics of lending companies when trying to collect payments from their borrowers.
After leaving his day job in finance to focus on building Jungle, Alfred started joining a number of pitching competitions locally and abroad to raise capital to develop Jungle from an idea into a real company.
Alfred Cardenas pitching the Jungle idea in Bangkok, Thailand as one of the top 10 global finalists at Techsauce Global Summit 2019 when Jungle was still using a peer-to-peer model. Today, Jungle owns all of its loan books.
Alfred represented Jungle and the Philippines at the Techsauce Global Summit 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, and at the Get in the Ring pitching competition in Berlin, Germany in 2019.
In June 2019, Alfred was accepted at the Antler startup generator program in Singapore—making him the only Filipino in his cohort to make it to the program.
In less than a month after the Antler program, Alfred met the former global CEO of DHL and two other foreign investors who are based in Singapore and raised over Php 6,000,000.00 of capital for Jungle—making Alfred one of the few Filipinos who successfully raised capital outside the Philippines from foreign investors.
Today, Jungle is valued at US$1 million and still growing even during the coronavirus pandemic.
